Open letter to Portland Commissioner Nick Fish on fast-track fluoridation vote.

Commissioner Fish,

"History will judge us in how we address this important issue." These are your words from the public hearing on fluoridation on September 6th. You then voted to add fluoride to Portland's water without a public vote, forcing concerned citizens to spend a huge amount of time and money to collect enough signatures to refer the decision to voters. You now have an opportunity to redeem yourself in the eyes of many Portlanders.

I hope that you will not be judged as someone who trampled science and democracy in the name of a failed public health policy. I hope that you will vote against Randy Leonard's proposal to fast-track the public vote on fluoridation and that you will support an independent scientific review panel to evaluate the current evidence on fluoridation.

Thank you,
Guy Wagner

An Inconvenient Tooth is a documentary film about fluoride by local filmmaker Guy Wagner. It was released September 6th, 2012 at the Portland City Hall. Mayor Sam Adams and Commissioner Randy Leonard watched the film before voting on fluoride. On September 12th the City Council unanimously voted to add fluoride to our water without a public vote even though Portland voters have rejected fluoride three times in the past.

With the success of the signature gathering effort to put fluoridation on the ballot it is now up to all of us to decide if we want fluoride added to our water instead of five people in City Hall deciding for us. Everyone in Portland is invited to watch this film for free online or in the theater and decide if they agree with the judgement of the City Council or not. An Inconvenient Tooth is one tool that can help to sort out reality from myth and get to the truth about fluoride.

Open letter to Sam Adams, Randy Leonard, Nick Fish, Amanda Fritz and Dan Saltzman - Members of the Portland city council.

Hello Sam, Randy, Nick, Amanda, and Dan,

I have directly handed to each of you (except Nick who left the meeting earlier than I expected) flyers for my new documentary film called "An Inconvenient Tooth". Thank you Sam and Amanda for telling me that you thought it had a great title.

I would like ask each of you one simple yes or no question. That question is whether or not you intend to watch this film in full before voting on water fluoridation on September 12th. I want to know whether or not you are going to take the time to watch this film before voting on something that will affect almost a million people, many or most of which do not want fluoride added to their water as they have expressed 3 times in public votes on the issue. I would like to know if you are going to honestly listen to the opposition before voting to fluoridate Portland area water for the first time in history.

Please answer "yes" or "no" as soon as you can. If you choose not to answer I will assume the answer is no.

Thank You,
Guy Wagner
